BANNED FROM TV

AY WHATUP!

Here's the video for a real classic song, "Banned From TV" by Noreaga, Big Pun, Nature, Jadakiss, Styles P, and Cam'ron. This is when they were all new MCs to the game on their respective rises to the top of hip hop. This is one of the biggest, hardest bangers of the 90's, slamming track. Here it is...

Cory Gunz Freestyle on DJ Green Lantern's Show

AY WHATUP!

Here's a banging freestyle by the mighty man Cory Gunz. Cory is the son of rapper Peter Gunz, who you might remember from the '90s ("UPTOWN BABY!"). DJ Green Lantern even tells Cory to repeat a verse, man got bars. Enjoy!

Showing My Appreciation: E 1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Ay Whatup!

There is nobody quite like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. They have been one of my favorite hip hop acts since I heard "Crossroads" as a little ass boy in 1997. Bone Thugs, consisting of Bizzy Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone, have a completely unique style, mixing rapid-fire hardcore rap with very light R&B and smooth groovy production. Bone's E 1999 Eternal is a truly CLASSIC album which cannot be overlooked by any person who says they appreciate quality hip hop. There are some essential tracks on the album, including "Crossroads," "1st Of Tha Month," "Mr. Bill Collecter," and "Bud Smokers Only." But don't go skipping around the album, every track is worth a good listen, even though you might have to repeat each song a few times just to know what they're saying. They're some quick ones.

I'm going to see Bone Thugs-N-Harmony live at Irving Plaza in NYC on April 6th. You can get tickets HERE

It's been too long...

AY WHATUP!

Is it just me or has the South been WAY too powerful for WAY too long? It seems like just yesterday that Bad Boy Records held New York's top spot high and proud, and quality hip hop reigned supreme. Now? There's a bunch of untalented bullshit MC's (if you can call them that) who don't rap about a damn thing. It's ridiculous. So sad how the mighty have fallen with the one quick blow of BIG's death. Well, East Coast heads, there may be some very good news. Puff Daddy, or P. Diddy, or whatever the fuck he like's to call himself this week, resigned the OG Bad Boy heavyweights The LOX for their next album. Over the last few years, The LOX have been feuding with Puff (that's what I'm calling him) over licensing ownership of the LOX's first 2 albums, so reuniting is a big step forward. There is also buzz spreading about Puff possibly signing Raekwon for his next album, which would be bananas. As much of a clown as he is, I wish Puff Daddy the absolute most of luck in taking East Coast hip hop back up to the top.

BET Cypher 2009

AY WHATUP!

This is the 2009 Rap Cypher for the BET Awards. I'm not playin' games when I say that these are true rap heavyweights, and they all GO THE FUCK IN. Juelz is a fucking monster in this. If you're major into hip hop you've probably seen this already. If not, enjoy and get an extra diaper ready.

To start you fools off...

AY WHATUP,

Welcome to Stay Up, Dunny! To get us started I will give you the ULTIMATE RAPPER LIST, my top 10 favorite MC's of all time...DON'T HATE IF YOUR STUPID BACKPACK RAPPER DOESN'T GET PICKED FOR MY LITTLE LIST, it's not that serious. The order may be a little off, but overall the top is on top. Oh, and groups count as one space! So here we go, starting at 10:

10. DMX

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

HE'S FUCKING FEROCIOUS. He will go down in history as one of the (if not the one) most energetic rapper in history, not to mention his ridiculous lyrical talent. You can damn near feel him biting you through the speaker.
Best Album: It's Dark and Hell is Hot

9. MF DOOM

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

No, he's not really from the 90's and really doesn't fit in at all with the rest of this list, but he's a rap machine. Easily one of the most original styles I've ever heard, the way his flow and wordplay work together is just bonkers. Formerly Zev Love X of the group KMD, Doom also goes by Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, and has an album with Madlib under the name Madvillain. Give him a listen with an open mind.
Best Album: Operation Doomsday

8. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Are they rapping or singing? Both! Somehow four of the fastest and most lyrical rappers all grew up in Cleveland together, it's weird. They got soul like no other hip hop act, but don't let the softness fool you, they are some violent, terrible people.
Best Album: E1999 Eternal

7. The LOX/D-Block

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

These guys are really living legends in the street. They were with the Bad Boy clique when it was still great, that just shows you how much of vets these guys really are. And they're still strong today. Just some violent gangster shit led by one of the greatest, Jadakiss.
Best Album: We Are The Streets

6. Busta Rhymes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I fucking love this guy. Yes, he is best known for his crazy, flamboyant style. But Busta has so much more to him than the average radio listener thinks. If you strip down his ridiculous image and slow down his verses, he is nothing less than an INCREDIBLE MC who really doesn't get enough shine for his greatness.
Best Album: When Disaster Strikes

5. Jay-Z

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I mean, what can I really say about this guy? 40 million copies sold worldwide is nothing to sneeze at. While in my opinion he has made some sub-par albums in his late years, he is a force that is definitely not to be fucked with. Yes, he's just that great.
Best Album (after a whole lot of thinking): Reasonable Doubt

4. Big L

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The absolute king of battle rap. He really cemented himself in the hip hop industry as a brutally violent force with some major screws loose. Unfortunately, his career was cut short when he was murdered at the ripe young age of 24 before releasing his 2nd album. This man was truly a monster.
Best Album: Lifestylez ov da Poor and Dangerous

3. Big Pun

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

BIG FUCKING PUNISHER! This guy has serious lyrical talent and style that is definitely not to be fucked with. His rhymes were dazzling while at the same time gritty and raw, never spit with anything less than the best delivery a hip hop head can ask for. He deserves to be top 5 on ANYONE'S list, stop sleeping on the greatest! He is one of the best that ever lived, period.
Best Album: Capital Punishment

2. Wu-Tang Clan

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

By far the best hip hop group of all time. Consiting of some of the greatest rappers, all of which complement the shit out of each other, the Wu has delivered at least half a dozen classic albums. And no, by classic I don't mean good or very good, I mean fucking CLASSIC. There's nothing else to say, these guys are all-in-all extraordinary.
Best Album: 36 Chambers

1.Notorious BIG

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

THE BEST. EVER.

Thanks for lookin',
